Wedding of the year

As a culmination of our RE topic on weddings we attended the wedding of Josh and Tilly.  What an amazing day I loved seeing you in role and you had a great understanding of the ceremony and why people want to get married.

The church all ready for the celebration.

The vicar welcoming guests to the church.

The bridegroom and his trusted best man!

A nervous wait with the parents of the bridegroom.

All the guests in place including an emotional bride's mother!

The lovely bride and bridesmaids waiting to leave for the church.

The proud dad.

The wonderful wedding photo.

What an amazing experience thank you year one.

Toys galore

We have been making peg dolls and moving vehicles using the knex. It was a challenge to make the vehicles as we had to plan them first before making. I was impressed at how much the vehicles looked like the plans.

I love the way the peg dolls were used to put on a play.

Our phonics challenge of threading the letter beads to make a word was a big hit.

Maths quiz trail

We made the most of the sunshine and had our maths lesson outside last week. We had a quiz trail and worked in partners to answer the questions. It was a chance to apply all the maths skills we have learnt over the year. Well done everyone you were all maths superstars.
Using sharing circles to divide.

French food lesson

We were so lucky to have one of our parents who is a secondary languages teacher to come in and teach us about French foods and which part of France they come from.  We first learned that France has a nickname of l'hexagon as it is shaped like a hexagon.  We then named different foods in French from a variety of regions. After that we set off tasting all the foods and writing wow words to describe the taste, texture and smell.  I was so impressed with all the children who gave everything a go even the stinky blue cheese! Thank you so much Madame Rogers for all your help we had a brilliant time.

Some of the foods we tried.

The honey was popular and the moutarde was very spicy!
This young man found out he loved olives!

Tour de playground

Today we learnt more about the Tour de France by taking part in our own scooter race.  Like the real tour riders we competed in teams ( the sports day teams) and traveled around the key towns in the first Yorkshire stage. All the children showed great team spirit cheering on every one and showing great determination in racing.  It was so much fun we had another set of races in the afternoon!

Super sports day

Have a look at your great sports day pictures. I think you all did a great job.

Kirkstall Abbey House Museum

Take a look at our photos from our trip last week.  We had the opportunity to explore the Abbey and understand how the monks lived there.  We then played games and practised our egg and spoon race for our sports day before lunch.  After lunch we visited Abbey house museum where we took part in a toys through time workshop and looked at the old and new toys on display and the Victorian streets.
WE were very proud to receive a  behaviour excellence award from the staff at the museum for our outstanding behaviour on the trip.  Well done year 1 you all deserved this award your behaviour was amazing.
