Year 1 PE this term!

This term we have been developing our ball skills in our Games Topic.

We have used basketballs and footballs to practice our throwing, bouncing, catching and dribbling skills as well as trying to score in our opponents target. We also worked on our attacking and defending skills.

We then moved on to using smaller balls practicing similar skills but we found it much more tricky!

Finally we used rugby balls, trying different passes.

Big talk 14.5.14

Who do you think lives behind this tiny door?  Can you imagine what their house looks like inside?

Cress investigation

To find out the conditions that seeds grow best in we have been running a cress investigation.  We have been growing cress in four different sets of conditions and observing how they grow.

PCSO's visit year 1

We have had two visits recently from our local PCSO's Michelle and Lisa.  The first visit was on Stranger Danger.  We talked about who a stranger was, what a stranger might say to you that would be unsafe and learnt some rules to follow if we felt unsafe.  Our rules were if a stranger approaches you
1. Shout no
2. Run away
3. Tell an adult.

After the PCSOs had left we made a safety poster to help us remember the rule and to identify which adults we could tell if we felt unsafe.  PCSO Michelle likes our posters so much that she has taken some back to Seacroft police station to put on display there.

On the second visit we covered road safety rules which was a good reminder from our work in the Autumn term. We also got the chance to try on the uniforms which everyone learned.

Adding and subtracting

We have been adding two 2 digit numbers together by adding the tens first then the units. We have used our 100 squares to help us.

Try out this game to get practise to adding 10 to a number.

Fairy habitat

A new fairy habitat has appeared in our classroom!  However there is no sign of any fairies so year 1 are writing information texts to hopefully entice the fairies into the classroom!  Have a look at what we have been getting up to.
