Maths Morning

Yesterday we took part in a maths morning with a difference as most of our learning was outdoors.  Year 1 was paired up with year 5 and Mr Lee and Mrs Longhawn had made a maths trail with four different stations around the school playgrounds and gardens.  Luckily there was one indoor station in the library as we did get a bit of rain at the end of the morning!  The children had to answer questions like;
Can you measure the span of the bridge?
Estimate how long you can balance on the tree stump on one foot then test it out.
Can you name the different shapes you can see in the library story carpet?

Well done everyone you all showed great team work.

World Book day

We had amazing fun on world book day and it was lovely to be joined by so many mums and dads to share our reading.  We also took part in a book hunt and a variety of Julia Donaldson activities.  Well done to all the parents who helped make the day so memorable with all the fantastic costumes.

Pancake fun

As well as discussing why we have Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday we had great fun holding a traditional pancake race in the playground.  Working in teams the children had to race to the skittle, flip the pancake and then race back to their teams to pass on the pan.  There was lots of team encouragement and only a little cheating as we picked up the pancakes from the floor!!!  I hope you enjoyed your real pancakes when you got home.

Rose pictures

You have to look at the slide show below, year 1's art work is fantastic.  We were lucky enough to borrow Miss Coomber from year 2 this week to help us to make observational drawings of a red rose - The Queen of hearts favourite flower.  With her super step by step instruction and the children's great listening skills we had some fabulous results.
